Once the shark was fully sedated, the veterinarian began the process of carefully examining the bulge on the shark’s body. It was at this moment that the veterinarian discovered that the shark had ingested something it should not have. The veterinarian knew that surgery was necessary to save the shark’s life, and shared their assessment with the sailors. The sailors were hesitant, unsure if they were making the right decision. But they knew they had to do something, so they helped to prepare for the surgery.

They set up a makeshift operating room on the deck of their ship. From that moment on, everything went in rapids. Before they knew it, the vet had already opened the shark’s stomach. At first they could not clearly see what it was but when they finally realized what was inside the shark’s body they were shocked. “How could a shark possibly have swallowed this?”, they asked the veterinarian. They looked at the veterinarian, thinking she would have an answer to their questions but the veterinarian just stood there, shaking her head.
