When she was nine years old, Nicole was adopted by Lionel Richie (then his wife Brenda). Nicole Camille Escovedo was her name. Her biological parents were Peter Michael Escovedo (a musician who briefly toured with Lionel) and Karen Moss (an assistant to Nicole’s aunt Sheila E). They agreed to allow Nicole to move in with Lionel & Brenda when she was four years old, as they couldn’t care for her financially. Nicole said that her parents were close friends with Lionel when she was adopted. They believed they would be able to provide better for me.
