Google Cloud, a suite of cloud computing services offered by the leading technology firm, has entered into a partnership with Central American country El Salvador, known as the first company that adopted Bitcoin (BTC) as the official legal tender. The confirmation of the partnership was given on Tuesday.
Interestingly, as per the announcement on August 29, the tech firm will provide Google Distributed Cloud (GDC) services in the Central American country. The goal of the partnership is to digitize the country, update government services, and improve the healthcare and education systems. More importantly, the GDC will also help bring infrastructure closer to where data is generated for El Salvador.
As per Nayib Bukele, the tech- and crypto-friendly President of El Salvador, under whom the country adopted Bitcoin as legal tender, his country is gradually becoming the “hub for innovation.” It is also crucial to point out that he posted about the partnership on his social media account on X (formerly known as Twitter) with a smirk face emoji.
“El Salvador is moving forward. We believe technology and foreign investment are key for development.”
As a part of a seven-year partnership between Google Cloud and El Salvador, the tech firm is set to open an office in the bitcoin-friendly country. While the partnership is pending full legislative approval, it will seek to digitize projects and processes such as invoicing, permitting, and more.
The partnership between Google Cloud and El Salvador would make the latter’s government the first Latin American government to utilize cloud technology. Thomas Kurian, the CEO of Google Cloud, believes that cloud computing can “truly transform” Latin America.
“Access to cloud computing has dramatically expanded across industries and regions throughout the world,” he said, adding, “enabling both small companies and the public sector to utilize the very same applications and services as more mature markets.”
As reported earlier by BitcoinWisdom, the cloud computing platform has partnered with multiple crypto firms, like crypto exchange Binance’s BNB Chain, among others.
