Due To The Crackdown In China, Huobi Global May Reduce Its Workforce By More Than 30%

Huobi Suffers $7.9M Hack: Offers Reward to Hacker

  • Huobi plans to enlist the help of law enforcement agents if the hacker fails to return the funds within 7 days.
  • Mixin Network was recently hacked for around $200 million.
  • Huobi offered the hacker a role in its security team if the funds were returned.

A report from blockchain analytics platform Cyvers revealed that Huobi Global’s HTX cryptocurrency exchange suffered an attack on September 24, which drained cryptocurrency worth $7.9 million. HTX responded to Cyver’s notice and quickly informed the public of the hack to prevent further damage. In addition, the HTX security team said they had unmasked the hacker.

Tron founder Justin Sun confirmed the hack in a post on X but claimed that the exchange had fully covered the loss and that users’ funds were safe. Sun also offered a 5% bonus to the attacker if the funds were returned. However, Huobi plans to involve law enforcement agents if the hacker fails to comply within seven days.

Sun wrote:

We are willing to offer 5% of the stolen amount (400,000 USD) as a white-hat reward to encourage the hacker to return the stolen funds. If the hacker returns the funds, we will also hire them as a security white-hat advisor for HTX.

Crypto hacks have become commonplace in recent months, the bulk of these attacks have been linked to North Korea’s Lazarus Group. The criminal outfit reportedly stole $70 million from cryptocurrency exchange CoinEx.

One of the recent hacks in the crypto market involves Mixin Network, a decentralized peer-to-peer platform. Mixin confirmed that the hack drained around $200 million from its mainnet and led to the suspension of withdrawal deposit services.

“In the early morning of September 23…the database of Mixin Network’s cloud service provider was attacked by hackers, resulting in the loss of some assets on the mainnet. The funds involved are approximately US$200 million,” Mixin said in a statement.

The network is reportedly seeking the help of SlowMist, a blockchain investigation platform, and Google to help track the hacker as it attempts to recoup the missing funds.
