Nova Labs Is Set To Debut “Helium Mobile,” Strikes Deal With T-Mobile

  • Nova Labs, the founder of the core technologies powering the Helium Network, has recently announced that it has signed a five-year contract with cellular telecommunication giant T-Mobile.
  • The deal with T-Mobile comes under the company’s broader goal to launch “the world’s first crypto-powered mobile service that will enable subscribers to earn crypto rewards for using the network while saving money.”

Decentralized wireless communications pioneer and Nova Labs, the founder of the core technologies powering the Helium Network, has recently announced that it has signed a five-year contract with cellular telecommunication giant T-Mobile to provide the United States nationwide 5G coverage for its subscribers.

According to Tuesday’s announcement by Nova Labs, the deal with T-Mobile comes under the company’s broader goal to launch “the world’s first crypto-powered mobile service that will enable subscribers to earn crypto rewards for using the network while saving money”, dubbed “Helium Mobile.”

Though neither of the firms has disclosed the terms of the agreement, Nova Labs said that this “industry-first Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) collaboration” with T-Mobile would open doors for Helium Mobile users to access products and services from both the T-Mobile 5G network and the local Helium 5G network created by the people. The Chief executive officer of Nova Labs Amir Haleem, who is also the founder of Helium, commented on the latest partnership by stating:

“Nova Labs is committed to building out a decentralized network. Our new agreement with T-Mobile gives our subscribers nationwide 5G coverage and enables us to offer mobile products and services that use both networks.”

The Helium network, which is made up of a growing community of people who deploy wireless devices powered by cryptocurrency, is known as the fastest-expanding decentralized wireless network delivering open-sourced coverage globally. Since the Network’s launch in 2019 to support the Internet of Things (IoT), more than 900,000 hotspots employing Helium Long Fi have been installed worldwide, with an astounding 1,000 new units being added every day.

Notably, 5G infrastructure can be made available to the general public at a much faster rate by giving community members the opportunity to participate in the development and operation of the Helium network, particularly in remote areas. T-Mobile Wholesale’s Senior Vice President and head of T-Mobile’s growing wholesale business Dan Thygesen said that his company believes that Helium Mobile “ is pursuing a very nascent and exciting market segment.”

“T-Mobile is excited to support Nova Labs’ innovation in this new crypto-powered space by enabling their mobility on the nation’s largest, fastest, and most reliable nationwide 5G network,”

He further added.

It is important to note that the company is aiming to launch its commercial service’s beta version in the first quarter of 2023 to provide the U.S. nationwide 5G coverage.

While Helium Mobile is focused on the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) market, Nova Labs is continuously in talks with a few cell phone manufacturers to develop specialized, crypto-friendly cell phones with efficiency in validating network coverage.
