Sam Altman Calls Out the US for Waging War Against Crypto

  • Sam Altman has slammed the United States government for waging a war against crypto.
  • The CEO of OpenAI said that the US government seeks to exert control over crypto and blockchain.
  • He said that he is “super against” CBDCs, as they allow authorities to restrict individuals’ purchasing power.
  • The executive said that he is very excited about Bitcoin and that “it is an important step on the tech tree.”

Sam Altman, the CEO of artificial intelligence firm OpenAI, has called out the government of the United States for waging a war against the digital asset sector. The executive of the firm responsible for the development and maintenance of the AI chatbot ChatGPT has expressed his disappointment publicly in a podcast.

While speaking at the Joe Rogan Podcast, Sam Altman expressed concerns regarding the US government’s intentions to control the blockchain sector and cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC), the world’s largest cryptocurrency. The executive said that he is very “worried about how far the surveillance state could go here” while referring to the government’s control over money.

“I’m disappointed that the U.S. government has done recently, but the war on crypto, which I think is a, like, we can’t give this up, we’re going to control [bitcoin and crypto], makes me quite sad about the country,” he said.

Additionally, Sam Altman pointed out that he is “super against” central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) that are blockchain-based fiat counterparts. He believes that the government will be able to strictly watch where and how people spend money and also restrict individuals’ purchasing power.

Meanwhile, Sam Altman expressed an optimistic future for Bitcoin, while the host of the podcast, Joe Rogan, who is also an American UFC color commentator, added that he sees bitcoin as having “the most likely possibility of becoming a universal viable currency.”

“I’m excited about bitcoin, too. I think this idea that we have a global currency that is outside of the control of any government is a super logical and important step on the tech tree.”

It is important to mention here that Sam Altman’s OpenAI is already working on a new project called Worldcoin, a controversial crypto project that seeks to generate a database of individuals by scanning their eyes while giving them a cryptocurrency called WLD in return. As reported earlier by BitcoinWisdom, Worldcoin is in “advanced talks” of securing $100 million in funding.
