Report: Bankman-Fried Needs a Maid

  • Bankman-Fried is presently banned from using any encrypted messaging device due to fears he could tamper with the legal process.
  • Bankman-Fried’s lawyers claim that the FTX founder is bored and needs a maid.
  • Bankman-Fried is set to be trialed in October for his role in the decline of both Alameda Research and FTX.

Lawyers representing former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried have asked a judge to relax the rules of his bail and allow some friends to visit the 31-year-old in his parent’s house, where he currently stays as he awaits his trial.

Bankman-Fried’s attorney, Christian Everdall, asked Manhattan federal judge Lewis Kaplan to allow some close friends to visit the disgraced FTX founder. Everdall, in his filing on Thursday, submitted a list of guests, which he said included “close friends and colleagues of Bankman-Fried’s parents and household help.” He added that the visitors had been briefed and were willing to comply with the rules of Bankman-Fried’s bail.

Everdall wrote that “these individuals are aware of and will abide by Mr. Bankman-Fried’s bail conditions, including the prohibition on sharing  ‘Prohibited Electronic Devices.”

The prohibited devices reportedly include devices such as computers, tablets, smartphones, and any device that supports chat and audio communication.

Bankman-Fried’s bail terms limit how much contact he has with the world ahead of his trial scheduled for October. One of the conditions for his bail demands that a security guard check his guest for devices and make them sign an electronic visiting record.

Bankman-Fried is being prosecuted for his part in the fall of his trading company, Alameda Research, and cryptocurrency exchange, FTX, in November. Some of the charges against him include wire fraud, money laundering, and crimes related to campaign finance.
