OpenSea Welcomes The New VP of Engineering Amidst Declining Interest In NFTs
OpenSea, the biggest NFT marketplace in the world, has confirmed the onboarding of a new VP of Engineering, Marko Iskander, despite the current bearish market.
As per the announcement from the co-founder and CEO of the NFT marketplace, Devin Finzer, Iskander will provide unique solutions to the issues of intense demand fluctuation and unexpected technical challenges that arises during his tenure. He will also have to work towards the goal of building a brand new internet.
The OpenSea blog stated that while searching for this role, the recruiters “met no one more energetic, strategic, empathetic, and versatile than Marko.”
Iskander’s experience
Before joining OpenSea as the new VP of Engineering, Iskander was the VP of Engineering at GitHub, a provider of Internet hosting for software development, for four years. In these four years, Marko grew his team from 60 recruits to over 300 and played a major role in the launch of GitHub Actions into a fully-fledged automation product. Additionally, he also helped build GitHub Packages.
Interestingly, before GitHub, Iskander worked as the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of a B2B marketing firm, followed by an engineering architect at Adobe.
Let creativity reign and the best work rise unhindered by a system meant to extract all profits from builders and overcharge their communities. I and everyone at OpenSea are committed to this vision, and we’ll work hard to keep pushing every boundary to bring it to reality.”
Iskander said in a statement.
Declining interest in NFTs
As per data from Google Trend, there has been a continuous decline in search queries related to NFTs. This value peaked in January 2022 but has since then been on a continuous decline. According to data from DappRadar, the trading volume on OpenSea has also declined by significant levels.
A recent data breach might also be a reason why the NFT marketplace’s popularity continues to decline, followed by reports of insider trading being rampant in the marketplace. However, despite the situation, the firm continues its expansion deals, including a deal with Klaytn to help OpenSea expand its reach in Asia.
