Coin Race: Best & Worst Cryptos in Red April

April was a rather rough period for the cryptocurrency market, May is finally here, and it is time to take a closer look at which coins fared the worst and the best over the past month. The clear winner for the best cryptocurrency of April is Bitcoin, which managed to increase in value by over 20% during the month. The worst performing cryptocurrency was Litecoin, which lost over 50% of its value.

The second-best performing cryptocurrency of April was Ethereum, which also managed to increase in value by over 20%. Ethereum’s price reached all-time highs, and this increase in price means that Ether is now the second most valuable cryptocurrency by market capitalization, only behind Bitcoin.

The losses in April followed a month of relatively good performance in March when all crypto assets in the top 10 by market capitalization posted gains. Similarly, February was also a strong month for the crypto market, with five out of the top 10 cryptos recording double-digit percentage gains.

April, however, has been rather miserable for crypto investors. With the exception of stablecoins, all other cryptoassets in the top 10 club are down for the month.

Winners & losers from the top 100

Looking out further to cover all coins in the top 100 by market capitalization, we see that SAFE, a little-known altcoin for secure and private payments, is up by close to 120% for the month. The coin was followed by the already-mentioned GMT token with a gain of 62% and monero with its almost 3% gain. isk, on the other hand, had a pretty tough month and was down by over 30% followed by Bitcoin SV with its 25% loss.

Biggest movers (either way) from outside the top 100

Finally, here are some interesting coins that made substantial gains or losses even though they’re not part of the top 100.

ave’s LEND token was up by almost 100% for the month and is currently trading at $0.42. The decentralized lending platform has been on a roll lately with its token getting listed on several big exchanges such as Binance and Coinbase.

The second-biggest gainer for the month was XRP, which was up by close to 50%. The coin has been in the news recently after Ripple, the company behind it, announced that it had raised $200 million in a new round of funding led by Tetragon.

The biggest loser for the month was Ethereum Classic, which was down by over 40%.
