McDonald’s, an American multinational fast food chain, has officially entered the metaverse industry with the debut of McNuggets Land, a digital world that has been launched to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the fast food giant’s popular Chicken McNuggets menu item. The world is filled with both real and blockchain-based rewards.

While the Hong Kong arm of McDonald’s has officially launched the metaverse on The Sandbox, it is accessible all over the world, and the location will be live in The Sandbox until August 28. The virtual world will allow people to complete quests and receive rewards in the form of The Sandbox (SAND) and other digital assets. The SAND can be used to purchase other items in McNuggets Land.

“Rooted in Hong Kong for 48 years, McDonald’s has always strived to deliver innovative experiences and happy moments,” said McDonald’s Hong Kong CEO Randy Lai, in a release. “We are excited to collaborate with The Sandbox to provide a fun-filled Web3 metaverse game experience themed on McDonald’s for our customers.”

Additionally, the users of the virtual world in Hong Kong will also be eligible to win a 365-day free Chicken McNuggets coupon, which can be redeemed at physical stores in the Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China. Moreover, users only need an email address to sign up for the virtual world.

Sebastien Borget, co-founder and chief operating officer of The Sandbox, said in a statement to CoinTelegraph that the partnership with McDonald’s takes The Sandbox to “a new level” and brings it “closer to realizing the ultimate goal of mass adoption of the metaverse.” Borget added that “the launch of self-publishing now allows our partners to realize their true potential and monetise their brand in the metaverse by making their customer experience available to everyone, all the time.”

As reported earlier by BitcoinWisdom, The Sandbox has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) partnership with the South Arabia Digital Government Authority. The agreement was signed by the CEO of the blockchain firm and the DGA of Saudi Arabia while they were both in Riyadh for the Leap Tech Conference. The digital platform is expanding its footprint in Saudi Arabia by signing an MOU and cooperating with other entities.
