Meta Shares New Updates on NFTs

  • Meta has invested heavily in the metaverse and NFT space.
  • The company previously announced plans to enable Instagram users across 100 countries to post NFTs minted on Ethereum, Flow, and Polygon blockchains.

Tech giant, Meta, has announced that users of both Instagram and Facebook can post their NFTs on their accounts by linking their wallets. The company made this known in a blog post it shared on Monday, adding that users of both social media platforms can connect wallets such as MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet, Trust Wallet, and Dapper Wallet to post digital collectables minted on Flow, Ethereum, and Polygon.

The news comes a few weeks after the social media giant announced plans to enable Instagram users across 100 countries to post NFTs minted on either the Flow, Polygon or Ethereum blockchain. Meta has a user base of over 1 billion people, and the company’s support of digital assets mirrors its ambitions.

The company wrote in the post,

As we continue rolling out digital collectibles on Facebook and Instagram, we’ve started giving people the ability to post digital collectibles that they own across both Facebook and Instagram. This will enable people to connect their digital wallets once to either app in order to share their digital collectibles across both.

Digital wallet integration with Facebook or Instagram appears to be restricted to social media apps rather than using external browsers. However, spreading NFTs to every smartphone with a Meta application might lead to increased revenue or adoption for the social networking colossus. Meta has been heavily involved in NFTs and other blockchain trends.

In May, the company Meta submitted patent and trademark applications to the United States Patent and Trademark Office for its brand to be employed in a crypto payments platform called Meta Pay. The company’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, believes Meta has a chance to grow its revenue as the digital world grows.

Meta has invested heavily in NFT and metaverse projects. Despite reporting a loss in its Metaverse department, Zuckerberg remains firm in his belief that NFTs and the metaverse are with the investment as they are the future trends.

Meta seeks to attract a wider audience by providing tools to let individuals flaunt their digital valuables through posts, whereas other platforms like Twitter and Reddit have focused on NFT-based avatars. The social media giant wants to support more blockchain and enable more crypto users to display their digital art on a global platform. NFT posts will be like regular posts and can be viewed on feeds.
