Yuga Labs’ Wylie Aronow Takes a Leave of Absence

  • The co-founder of Yuga Labs, Wylie Aronow, has been diagnosed with heart failure and will therefore, be taking a leave of absence.
  • Aronow stated that he has been having “mild symptoms” for a few months allowing him to lead a “mostly normal life.”
  • He did not give a specific date for when he hoped to fully recover and resume his regular responsibilities.
  • Aronow has struggled with a chronic illness in his twenties that prevented him from progressing in his profession.

Yuga Labs’ Wylie Aronow, a non-fungible token (NFT) entrepreneur and one of the co-founders of Bored Ape Yacht Club and CryptoPunks, has been diagnosed with heart failure. Therefore, he will be absent from Yoga Labs while he manages his heart failure symptoms.

Aronow wrote in a Jan. 28 tweet to his 144,900 followers that the sad decision to leave came after being diagnosed with heart failure and having had a number of symptoms over the previous few months.

While his “mild” symptoms still allow him to lead a “mostly normal life,” the NFT entrepreneur claimed that his illness has quickly worsened to the point that he is now required to leave his professional work.

“What does this mean as it relates to my work at Yuga? It means I’m going to be taking a leave of absence to focus on my health for a while.”

Aronow, a renowned figure in the NFT space, didn’t give a specific date for when he hoped to fully recover and resume his regular responsibilities. He did, however, confirm that he will continue to serve as a board member and a strategic advisor.

It is important to note that Aronow has had other medical conditions that have prevented him from working before this. He struggled with a chronic illness in his twenties that prevented him from progressing in his profession. Therefore, there was no turning back when he eventually recovered and co-founded Yuga Labs.

“When I recovered and we started Yuga, I didn’t want to waste a second chance at life. I pushed myself way past my limits. I worked 12 hours a day, nearly every day. I should have taken the advice from everyone around me and sought balance,” said Yuga Labs’ co-founder.

Aronow also expressed his excitement to work with the company’s new CEO, Daniel Alegre, the former Activision Blizzard president and COO. On the other hand, Daniel also commented on Aronow’s leave of absence by stating:

“I am honored to have the opportunity to join the Yuga Family soon and grateful to Wylie for his leadership, vision and tireless commitment to the foundational principles that have served the community so well.  Your health is an obvious priority Wylie.”

In February 2021, Aronow and Greg Solano co-founded Yuga Labs. The most well-known NFTs created by the company are Othersidemeta, CryptoPunks, BAYC, MeeBits, and CryptoPunks. It is crucial to note that, as per an earlier report from BitcoinWisdom, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) was investigating the NFT firm on the possibility that the sale of its digital assets violated federal laws. The SEC hasn’t charged the firm with anything yet and the investigation may not even result in charges.
