Bitcoin Supporter and Miami Mayor Suarez Joins Presidential Race

  • The mayor of Miami and Bitcoin supporter Francis Suarez is officially entering the 2024 US presidential race.
  • The mayor filed the paperwork confirming his entry as a candidate as per the June 14 documents.
  • He is entering alongside Donald Trump, another crypto supporter, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
  • Suarez was one of the first politicians to accept their paychecks in BTC.

The current administration, under the leadership of Joe Biden, has confirmed that it will not support the adoption of cryptocurrencies in the country, and numerous attempts have been made to cut down on the oxygen supply to the industry. Taking advantage of the same, many supporters of Bitcoin (BTC), the world’s largest cryptocurrency, have announced their candidacy for the 2024 presidential race, including the Mayor of Miami, Frances Suarez.

Suarez is known for accepting a portion of his paycheck in Bitcoin and also for working with crypto businesses in Miami to increase the rate of adoption of digital assets in the region. Interestingly, on June 14, the mayor filed the paperwork indicating his entry into the 2024 US presidential race.

The Republican will be entering the race alongside former US President Donald Trump and another Bitcoin supporter, fellow Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. As per the documents made public by the US Federal Election Commission, Suarez has filed the paperwork. The politician can be expected to make a speech regarding the same at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, on June 16.

It is important to mention here that Suarez believes that Bitcoin has the potential to be a global currency. He also revealed in an interview in 2022 that he keeps most of his crypto stash for personal use.

Additionally, this is not the first time Suarez has hinted that he will be running for the 2024 presidential race. In a long and diverse interview with former CEO of tech giant Google, Eric Schmidt, at the eMerge Americas 2023 conference in Miami, the Bitcoin supporter said that he was present in New Hampshire, which is a very vital place for potential presidential candidates that are Republicans.

Talking about the Democratic Party, the nephew of John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is also a supporter of digital currencies, has confirmed that he too will be entering the presidential race. Kennedy Jr. believes that Bitcoin could offer people an “escape route” from the current financial disturbance created by the actions of the Fed.
